This homemade apple sauce is perfect for using up left over fruit produce before it goes to waste. Grab those older fruits tucked away at the back of your fridge and chop them up!
This recipe makes a jar and a bit of apple sauce.
Ingredients:
- 4 pink lady apples
- 4 granny smith apples
- 4 pears
- splash of water
- 1 tbsp maple syryp
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
Method
1. Using a trusty cutting board and knife, chop up all the apples and pears into small cubes.
2. Place a large pot on the stove and turn it to medium heat.
3. Add all chopped fruit, a splash of water, maple syrup and cinnamon.
4. Saute this for approx. 5 minutes and then lower heat.
5. Watch over the pot, stirring occasionally as the apples soften and cook through. It took around 30 minutes to achieve the soft consistency for pureeing.
6. Once apples are completly cooked, remove from the heat and use a hand-held blender to puree the apples into a thick apple sauce.
7. Mix in the apple cider vinegar and let the apple sauce cool before jaring.
8. Store in the fridge and it will remain delicous around for a week (give or take).
